Prisoners barter with fish
Friday, October 3rd, 2008I don’t know where I come up with this stuff. Apparently canned fish is becoming currency in some prisons. Sounds like a joke, but I think the article is legit.

1. Take a picture of yourself right now.
2. Don’t change your clothes, don’t fix your hair…just take a picture.
3. Post that picture with NO editing.
4. Post these instructions with your picture.
This must be what I look like at work. I scaled the picture, but that’s not editing. ![]()
So my benevolent web host updated the version of Wordpress they use a while back. What changes I noticed were generally for the better, except for one thing: all the links on the blogroll were now doubled. I tried everything I could, including deleting and re-adding the links, to no avail. It didn’t hurt anything, it just looked stupid and annoyed me. I can build an entire website by hand, but I can’t fix duplicate links in Wordpress!
Today I tried again and was able to straighten things out. What I did was switch the category on each link, save, then switch back. It killed all the duplicates. I’m not sure if this is a problem with updgrading to this version of Wordpress or if something went wrong at my host, but it’s nice to have this little bug fixed.
Finally got around to messing with the available Wordpress themes for this blog. Seems like they all suck in some way, but I’ve decided this one sucks least. As you may suspect if you’ve seen my site, I like simple stuff with an emphasis on content, preferably in blue. =) All the themes waste space in some way, or include graphics I don’t like or find confusing. I’ll go with this one for a while until I get tired of it.
I’ve still not found a way to create my own styles. The files for the blog are somewhere on the server that I can’t hack directly. I’ll work on it one of these days.
Update: I’ve switched back to the Wordpress default. I hate wasting screen real-estate on crap, using unreadable fonts and still haven’t invested time in building me own theme. One day…
After playing around a bit I think I’ve got the hang of WordPress. It is a bit limiting, but then anything is compared to writing everything by hand in HTML. It does let me edit the HTML itself, which is comforting. I was able to import all my old postings (OK all 4 of them), and still keep my timestamps correct.
I still haven’t figured out how to theme it, but I’ll have to mess with that later. All the available themes pretty much suck, and I’d like to style the blog to look like my main site. If anyone has tips, let me know.
